     The Walmart Foundation, a unit of retail company Walmart, has come forward to help small farmers in the country. The foundation has announced a grant of 48 million dollars or about 34 million rupees to help small farmers.

      This fund has been given for small farming farmers for access to agricultural technology, training on sustainable farming activities.

      Walmart Foundation President and Executive Vice President Kathleen McLaughlin said at an event in Delhi on Tuesday that a grant of $ 48 million would be given to two companies - Digital Green Techno Serve.

      These two companies have been given to small-hold farmers to access agricultural technology, training on sustainable farming activities, better access to organized markets and to help cultivate the skills and capacity of farmer producer organizations (FPOs). .

      According to the company's statement, the fund is part of the $ 25 million (Rs 180 crore) aid announced by Walmart Foundation in September last year. The company had announced to provide assistance of Rs 180 crore in the next five years to improve the livelihood of the farmers.

      With this announcement, Walmart Foundation has contributed $ 10 million out of $ 25 million. This is expected to positively impact more than 81,000 farmers in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.

      Walmart India has also announced to buy 25 per cent of the products sold in its stores directly from small farmers by 2023.
